eShop - SSL Certificiates and HTTPS

This article applies to the Magicdust eShop 1.0. Click here for articles relating to Magicdust eShop 2.0.

What is HTTP?

HTTP stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol, and it is a set procedure for transfering information on the internet. However the downfall with this is that since everyone knows how to exchange information using HTTP, it makes it easy to intercept information. This is not ideal when exchanging sensitive information such as credit card details. Therefore it is necessary to apply a bit of extra security.

HTTPS

HTTPS stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure. Using HTTPS, any two computers which must send information between each other agree on a code that only they can read, keeping sensitive information safe. They use this code on a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to send the information back and forth.

SSL Certificates

To set up your website to encrypt sensitive information, it is necessary to purchase an SSL certificate. These certificates apply the protection rules that create the encryption.

Magicdust can provide you with an SSL certificate. For more information, contact sales@magicdust.com.au
